Secretarial Order 3431 Bureau Reporting on Review of Changed or Removed Properties
Consistent with Secretarial Order 3431, Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History, the Bureau of Land Management, under Sec. 5, is directed to provide a report to the ASLM "identifying any properties on lands within its jurisdiction that were altered or removed since January 1, 2020..."
As described in subsection Sec. 5(a)(1), the review should include "any public monuments, memorials, statues, markers, or similar properties (collectively: properties) on lands within its jurisdiction that have been removed or changed from January 1, 2020, through the date of this Order" and "may be conducted by a Bureau-wide data call or other method determined by the relevant Bureau to be the most efficient and cost-effective way to identify properties that have been removed or changed since January 1, 2020."
On May 22, the Bureau's Executive Leadership Team was notified of the Order and all 12 BLM states were directed, consistent with SO 3431 to "conduct a review to identify any public monuments, memorials, statues, markers, or similar properties (collectively: properties) on lands within its jurisdiction that have been removed or changed from January 1, 2020, through the date of this Order."
All 12 BLM states have confirmed in writing that the necessary review has been conducted, and that there is nothing to report.

Please see attached the new Secretary Order (3431) Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History. We are asking each state to please review the Secretary Order and conduct a review to identify any public monuments, memorials, statues, markers, or similar properties (collectively: properties) on lands within its jurisdiction that have been removed or changed from January 1, 2020, through the date of this Order. Please send your list to Jeff Krauss and Tom Heinlein by Friday, June 6.
i. The review required by this Order may be conducted by a Bureau-wide data call or other method determined by the relevant Bureau to be the most efficient and costeffective way to identify properties that have been removed or changed since January 1, 2020.
ii. This review shall not include properties located on lands held in trust by the United
States for an individual Indian or Tribe, or lands held by an individual Indian or Tribe that are subject to Federal restrictions on alienation, except that, to the extent such lands are included within units of the national park system, it shall include NPS properties on such lands
The purpose of this Order implements provisions of President Trump's March 27, 2025, Executive Order (EO) 14253, titled "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History." EO 14253 directs the Secretary of the Interior (Secretary) to provide sufficient funding, as available, to improve the infrastructure of Independence National Historical Park and to complete such improvements by July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It also directs the Secretary to review public monuments, memorials, statues, markers, or similar properties within the Department of the Interior's (Department) jurisdiction and to restore Federal sites dedicated to history, including parks and museums, to solemn and uplifting public monuments that remind Americans of our extraordinary heritage, consistent progress toward becoming a more perfect Union, and unmatched record of advancing liberty, prosperity, and human flourishing.

Glennallen field office in disrepair after flood The signs at this location have been shot up/ spray painted for years and never replaced. Many are no longer legible. Is this something that can be looked into/ corrected? The photos of Trump and Vance are really creepy. My children started to cry and the door slammed behind us. I think having images of the Antichrist and his fallen angel step child on the wall is really tasteless and inappropriate.
No complaints. It's a great exhibit, a great museum, and very interesting history. Fund these places more!

I am offended by the sign posted at this site. I feel it fails to emphasize that America was founded on STOLEN LAND. The sign posted as a requirement of the federal government asking for feedback on "any signs or other information that are negative about either past or living Americans" itself is offensive to the public. As Americans we all benefit from awareness of our history warts and all. Whitewashing history benefits no one and dooms us to repeat past atrocities. I find it very offensive to have a statement which basically supports whitewashing history. Isn't it time that Americans learn what really happened instead of the winner mythology? The pole fence on the USFS border on top of the mountain is in need of repair. Specifically, the portion on the west side of the cattle guard (not the portion by the big water hole) the first repair needed: 45.15053, -108.35037 Broken rail. Second repair needed: 45.15036, -108.35028 Top rail down. Farther down there are NINE SECTIONS that the supports are down and the fence was so low that the horses can walk over it. And farther down from that, there are dead trees down on the fence that look like they have been there for years. This is very concerning as we saw a horse on the wrong side of the fence on the USFS side. Later she was joined by a stallion. Luckily the next day the pair figured out how to get back through the damaged fence to rejoin the herd. I left a voice mail message with a person last name Lorenzo in the Billings field office, but never heard back. NA Quite the contrary to the presupposition of "negative...fail to emphasize"! What a wonderful testament to a rich history of place and people. The exhibits in the historical center were informative and abundant with artifacts. The information was educational. But it was the opportunity to walk the landscape, to see the beauty, and to come to understand the essence of the ancient Puebloan people that was most inspiring! Oh, and by the way, it is CANYONS of the Ancients (not "Canyon" as incorrectly titled on the sign soliciting reports of "negative" representation). All toilets at this site were closed and locked over the 2025 Fourth of July weekend, one of the busiest times of the year there. The large number of people camping there and driving through on the very busy road were having to defecate very near the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River. Keeping toilets open in busy areas like this should have a higher priority at the BLM.

The public needs to know about the negative actions done by white people to Native Americans, not pretend as if it didnt happen. America is founded on lying, cheating and stealing.

All signs in Wyoming recreation sites should stay historically accurate and the BLM deserves the funding and resources to maintain all sites. Public lands must be kept in the hands of the American people.
Could use hand sanitizer in the restroom. The camp is immaculate and the automated checkin was amazing. Great job BLM! There needs to be trail signs so you know what is the correct path. It would be nice to grade the road in to get out the wash board affect
Many of the recreation, archaeological, and biological resources within the Vernal Field Office are in urgent need of increased staffing and funding. Currently, oil, gas, and other extraction activities are prioritized over the stewardship of these invaluable public assets-resources that reflect the natural, cultural, and ecological heritage that makes America truly exceptional.
Numerous interpretive and directional signs that highlight the region's beauty, grandeur, and unique landscapes are in disrepair. From my understanding, the office lacks the funding, staffing capacity, and in some cases, the institutional support to adequately maintain or promote these resources.
Archaeological sites are particularly vulnerable. They continue to suffer degradation due to limited law enforcement presence, leaving them unprotected from looting and vandalism. Similarly, biological resources-including habitat for sensitive and endangered plant and animal species-face increasing threats from expanding development and inadequate monitoring or mitigation. These ecosystems deserve protection, not only for their intrinsic value but also for the ecological services and biodiversity they support.
Meanwhile, energy development continues at a rapid pace, often with limited regard for long-term impacts to the landscape, cultural sites, and ecological integrity.
I urge you to ensure that the Vernal Field Office elevates recreation, cultural resource protection, and biological conservation to a level equal to that of energy development. Doing so will require increased funding, dedicated staffing, and clear policy direction that prioritizes balanced, science-based land management. These landscapes deserve thoughtful stewardship-not just for today's public, but for future generations. The signage fails to accurately portray the indigenous peoples that lived in this area, the impacts that Europeans had on their lives, and their overall importance in American history. Now, people are going right behind them (which is near a water source) and leaving human waste and debris. I dont blame the individuals whose jobs it is to work out there, I blame their leadership on DC. Shame on you. Keep American history honest, don't whitewash the past to make it Disney.

ITS INCREDIBLE! Everything is positive about past and living Americans but they need more money here for upkeep and conservation. More money!!! This office has historically been provided insufficient resources and has been under staffed for the 25 years I have visited. The conditions are worse now then I have ever seen it. They need repairs at all the recreation sites, campgrounds and trailheads but there is no one to perform the needed work. Literally all of the visitor points need attention. How do you expect them to serve the public needs without providing the resources or staffing to do so? This is an executive branch failure of the American people.
It was amazing to see dinosaur tracks in situ! Thank you for preserving this fascinating fossil record and keeping it open for the public. No There is a large sign that requires us to pay fees to use the site. There is no where to pay for the use fee. The BLM office says that there is no required fee here. The bathroom door is shot up and so are all of the signs.
Repair road barriers that homeless have destroyed. In need of No Camping and No Dumping signs around community forest. Trash receptacles at trailheads. More law enforcement presence because of homeless activity. Bench needs fixed

There is a sign in the museum, in the portion that handles slavery and the dred Scott decision. It says that black people are still fighting for equal rights in America. America is a land of equal opportunity. Our own museum saying that's not true isn't in alignment with our national identity. None This place is amazing! Brand new picnic tables, clean ADA toilet, and nothing but beauty, grandeur, and abundance!

There is a BLM sign posted at the campground that requests reporting "Any signs or other information that are negative about either past or living Americans or that fail to emphasize the beauty, grandeur, and abundance of landscapes and other natural features.". This BLM sign itself is clearly very negative and a blot on the landscape, for two reasons. First, it unambiguously implies the existence of negative information that should be repressed. Second, it clearly has the character of a Stalinist, Communist East German or North Korean government directive that attempts to control public behavior and therefore is deeply in-American. None Smokejumper TH needs to have the vegetation under the wooden barricades trimmed, it's a fire hazard from hot vehicle engines.

I wasn't able to tell what several of the markers were without it unfortunately The campground is in absolutely great shape thanks to the wonderful federal workers that support our national parks and campgrounds... despite the absolute travesty and shitshow that is the Trump Administration. I think that the two lakes we have visited soda Lake near Pinedale and Boulder Lake are great examples of how nature and industry can coexist. At soda Lake we watched the fish and game department deliver golden trout to restock ponds in the mountains. Here at Boulder Lake the lake is amazing, clear and perfect for paddle boarding and the campsite is so peaceful. We've seen lots of different wild animals, along with horses and cattle.. I think this is what makes America great that small farmers and ranchers can prosper while partnering with the BLM and NFS and preserve nature and recreation for all Americans!! No suggestions on repairs, All Trails gave the map. All in good order. Maybe add signs with the loop maps.
Requesting removal of anything from signage discussing the history of this country that is negative is in and of itself offensive. Truth and sanity is acknowledging actual facts regardless of how it makes a bunch of sensitive little snowflake white people feel. None Signs broken trail makers missing, very poor maintenance Many signs are sun-bleached and illegible Behind camp spot 4 and 5 near the rocks is abandoned barb wire fencing. We offered first aid to a family whose young boy stepped on it peircing his shoes. They were afraid of tentnus so they were going to have him looked at in Burns. It needs bolt cutters to be remove. The trail down Butte Creek is in disrepair, the bridges need replacement and the stairs have dangerous broken steps. Please contact Friends of Butte Creek to see if we can help.
