For the following paragraph: Most cleaning agents contain YOCs. To minimize exposure, look for the Environmental Protection A gency's "Ba-s-ign--fer--theEnvironment" "Safer Choice" label. This recognizes the products thatmeet stringent criteria and are the least harmful in their class. Flope this helps. Thanks, R. From: Maya Kukes ! Deadine is also noon today if possible When this story ran in 2014 we mentioned the EPA's "Design for the Environment" label for cleaning products. I think this text needs to be updated to reflect your new label. Can you confirm that the following is correct? Most cleaning agents contain YOCs. To minimize exposure, look for the Environmental Protection A gency's "Design for the Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 13 ED 002061 00020774-00001 Environment" "Safer Choice" label. This recognizes the products that are the least harmful in their class. Thanks for the quick response! My deadline is tomorrow at noon. I am working on updating a story (for a Real Simple (book) that we ran in 2014 about pollution in the home. This is what we said in 2014 but upon some digging, I wonder if we should just cut this whole section? Does new furniture even contain flame retardants? Please note--none of this info is being credited to the EPA, I just want to find out if this info is even relevant any more and what the current regulations are regarding flame retardants and home furnishings. CURRENT TEXT (from 2014): Many sofas, drapes, rugs, and pressed-wood items are coated with flame retardants to prevent fires. But besides irritating the respiratory tract and causing headaches and fatigue, chronic exposure to these chemicals has been shown to affect liver, kidney, and brain function over time. Even when the "new couch" smell from chemicals emitted from the upholstery disappears, the fumes are still there. You just don't notice them. Chemical- free furnishings are slowly becoming more common at retailers and specialty shops (like eklahome.com)[NOTE: TFIIS STORE IS OUT OF BUSINESS NOW). Beginning in January 2015, couches sold in California will have to meet new flammability standards that are designed to reduce flameretardant chemicals in furniture. Experts hope that this will lead to more affordable nontoxic options nationwide. I was wondering if you'd be able to help put me in touch with the right person at the EPA who can help me distill the current regulations on chemicals (flame retardants) in furniture? I'm on deadline and am hoping to get in touch with someone today or tomorrow. Many thanks!! Maya Kukes Real Simple Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 13 ED 002061 00020774-00003
