(2) _ne oleic acid will be diluted in a 50/50 mixture of Dowanols solution. (3) Redundancy shutdown logic will be used. The control logic will be run off of two thermocouples. (4) In the event of overheating (reactor temperature reaches 190 C), the jacket will go to full cooling. Then after, the reactor temperature has cooled down to 160 c, the nitrogen purge to the system will begin. (5) A second pressure transmitter will be added to the top of the column. Redundancy shutdown logic will be used. (6) A check valve will be installed on VP-30 outlet. (7) As part of the shutdown logic for overheating, the system will go to total reflux. -V VVv -ys Steven Hartman 'H6MICAL COMPANY DO A 016966 CONFTDFNTTAl DOW CHEMICAL U.S.A. Perform analytical tests to confirm neutralization of KOH before initiating the distillation step. 2. Since oleic acid is viscous, consider dilution with Dowanol or butanol before addition to RX-26. 3. As a means of obtaining redundancy into RX-26 high temperature shut-down logic, consider incorporating inputs from more than just one thermocouple. 4. In the event that overheating occurs in RX-26, consider lowering the temperature to a pre-determined level by applying full cooling before activating the nitrogen flush. 5. Consider installing a redundant pressure transmitter on RX-26 with either high pressure alarm or shut-down. 6. Check outlet of VP-30 to determine if check valve is installed. 7. Consider incorporating full reflux in the event of an overheating problem in RX-26. Please respond in writing to the committee chairman as to action taken or planned in regard to these considerations. Gerald Wagener Chairman Reactive Chemicals Committee jpb 00 A 016967 CONFTDFNTTAI.
