As described in the referenced memo, AH-Disc Records complained that metal contamination in 3805D, lot 8073415, resulted in dented dies and damaged stampers.
An approximate 3/32 inch round, non-magnetic metallic particle, removed from a record at All-Disc, was submitted for analysis. Atomic Absorption analysis revealed that this particle consisted of iron, chromium and nickel indicating stainless steel. The particle appearance suggested that it may have come from welding slag.
Copolymer 315 type, lot 613081, was used in this 3805D lot. Since this copolymer lot was the first copolymer produced after the plant start-up, 7/8/73, a check should be made as to whether welding was done during the shutdown at any point in the copolymer process including screens, airveying system, blowers, silos, etc. If welding was done, it is recommended that, in the future, when this type of maintenance is performed, the plantstart-up is with a flooring type copolymer to provide a clean-out of the system.
