RE: Response to Harvey
You can attribute this to Li z Bowman, Spokeswoman for EPA Admi ni strator Pruitt. Admi ni strator Pruitt has been in regular contact with Region 6 and commends the staff there, along with the many others across the Agency, who are part of this hurricane response effort for thei r leadership and preparation. Helpi ng Region 6 to manage response efforts and focusing on safety of those affected are our highest priorities.
EPA has an organized emergency response program and is positioned to support FEMA, state, 1ocal and tri bal partners. Headquarters' Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been acti vated and we are already deploying assess to support emergency response and aftermath flooding. The National Incident Management Assistance T e a m , consisting of highly ski 11ed response personnel from across the Agency, has been activated and should arrive in Dal 1as by tomorrow.
The Agency is supporting the response effort in several w a y s : EPA is developi ng surface water sampli ng pians to address public health concerns regardi ng
possi ble contami nates found in storm wa te r. EPA will begin fi eld sampli ng of flood waters as soon as conditions al1ow.
EPA's dri nki ng water and waste water staff are ready to deploy to offer techni cal assi stance necessary to restore servi ces as qui ckly as possi b l e . These teams will vi si t dri nki ng water and waste water faci1iti es to determi ne functi onali ty and provi de techni cal assi stance as needed. At the request of the State of Te xa s, EPA is deployi ng personnel to assi st the Texas Commi ssi on on Envi ronmental Quali t y 's (TCEQ) Dri nki ng Water and Waste Water Phone Bank.
EPA's Superfund Remedial Project Managers worked with site operators to secure the sites 1ast week ahead of the storm. We conti nue to work wi th site operators to get status updates, conduct rapi d damage assessments, and determi ne if addi ti onal emergency cleanup activities are necessary.
The Agency will be worki ng wi th TCEQ to determi ne where the Agency can best assi st the state in contacti ng industri al sources along the Texas coast, most of whi ch underwent organized shutdown of thei r operations in advance of the storm. EPA will ini ti ate contact wi th sources 1ocated wi thi n the storm area to determi ne status and pians to resume operati o n s , and we will closely moni tor start-up activities. As rai nfal1 conti nues, EPA is worki ng wi th LDEQ to forecast any needs the states may have as a result of heavy rai ns and possi ble floodi n g .
EPA conti nues to wi th the states to provi de fuel and refi nery waivers to address any fuel supply issues.
