Attached are our results on C-8 in the special batch (P27-1047) of FEP dispersion, that was made by Le3 Blair (cooled before venting).
The average is 980 ppm (stdev =* 53 ppm), which does not look way off from the recipe concentration of 1080 ppm. A small difference is to be expected, due to the equilibrium between C-8 absorbed on polymer and the C-8 reacted to its methyl ester. C8(pol) <-- > C8(esterifying solution) C8(esterifying solution) + MeOH <-- > C8 ester In the case of methylene blue there is a similar equilibrium.
In other words, if these results are reliable, there is no need to worry about C-8 vapor escaping from the autoclave. I am looking forward to your results.
Below are some details about our methods, for your consideration. What is strange is that the methylene blue method and the GC method are so close. We have always been told that the methylene blue method is sensitive to the in-situ surfactants in FEP dispersion, but either this is not true, or there are very few in-situ's in this dispersion.
