On 11/6 I saw that EPA designated about 85% of the counties in the US as in attainment (or unclassifiable) of the 2015 ozone standard, but as far I could see there is no plan for when the remainder of the country will be designated. Is there a timeline for the "separate future action" that would address those other areas?
No.
Related, can you explain why exactly the EPA is "not yet prepared to issue designations" for those other areas? What is the reason for the delay on those?
EPA continues to evaluate recommendations for the remaining portions of the country and intends to take action at a later date.
Are there any plans to revisit this standard at EPA before it is next due for a planned evaluation? Obviously, the priorities of the new administration and the new EPA leadership differ from what we've seen in the past, so I am just curious if there is a plan to re-engage with the science about ozone in any way, and if so what the timeline on that would be.
We have no information to share at this time.

Subject: Questions for a story on ground-level ozone for Ensia
Hi Enesta,
I'm working on a story for Ensia about ground-level ozone, and I had a few questions I was hoping someone at EPA could answer. My deadline is a bit flexible, but I would appreciate your response by next Wednesday (11/22) if at all possible. Questions are as follows:
1) On 11/6 I saw that EPA designated about 85% of the counties in the US as in attainment (or unclassifiable) of the 2015 ozone standard, but as far I could see there is no plan for when the remainder of the country will be designated. Is there a timeline for the "separate future action" that would address those other areas?
2) Related, can you explain why exactly the EPA is "not yet prepared to issue designations" for those other areas? What is the reason for the delay on those?
3) Are there any plans to revisit this standard at EPA before it is next due for a planned evaluation? Obviously, the priorities of the new administration and the new EPA leadership differ from what we've seen in the past, so I am just curious if there is a plan to re-engage with the science about ozone in any way, and if so what the timeline on that would be.
Thanks very much for your help with this.
Best regards,
Dave Levitan
