QUALITY CONTROL
Xo maintain the rigid standards of air* craft quality in our wire and cables, we maintain an efficient control system for every step in the manufacturing process, in accordance with M1L-Q-9858. Beginning with the conductor materials, and continuing throughout, the insulat ing process to the completed wire, our well equipped test laboratory conducts all tests required by the applicable specifications, be they Military Specifi cations or our own. The photographs on this page illustratesome of our production test and stand ardization equipment in every-day use to insure proper quality control of our wire and cable production. I All of our thermocouple wire is labora tory checked against Bureau of Stand ards certified thermocouples to deter mine electromotive force characteristics at specified temperatures before and after the application of insulation, as double insurance of accurate tempera ture measurements. Regular inspection tests are made on all wire and cable to make certain that the user will have a product that not only conforms to, but in many cases exceeds the specification requirements.

The superior insulating qualities, solvent resistance, abrasion resistance and high tempera ture resistance of teflon plus the silver plated copper stranded conductor used in the above, produce a most versatile hookup wire for electronic, aircraft and missile applications. Teflon is not affected by organic or inorganic solvents and acids and has an extremely low moisture absorption factor. Due to teflon's high temperature resistance, printed circuitboards can be completely wired and hot-tin dipped; soldering irons pressing against the insulation of adjacent wiring have no effect and miniaturized electronic components may operate at temperatures of 400F. without deterioration of the insulation value of the wire.

EXTRA FLEXIBLE, HIGH TEMPERATURE, MOISTURE AND ABRASION RESISTANT CABLE
Designed to withstand thousands of repeated flexures without damage to the conductors or insulation, lewis "EXFIEX" aircraft cable has boen operating in the high temperature tone of several medals of a wall known helicopter for several years as well as in ether locations whore superior "flax" resistance, moisture resistance ana abrasion resistance are required. The individual conductors of the coble are made with fine-stranded, silver-plated copper, insulated with silicone rubber covered with a color-coded braid of silicone treated fiber glass. Each conductor is subjected to an insulation flow test of 2509 volts rms before cabling, to insure satisfactory insulation for present day aircraft voltagos. Exflex cable has been tested by subjecting it to the standard cold bend tost at minus 554., a high tomperarure operation test at 254C. for 50 hours, a selvenl rosistanca test in Skydrol for four hours and tho standard abrasion tost. In addition, it was tasted in a 5% salt wator solution with 1500 volts for five minutes.
Tho basic part number designation for Exflex cable it "EFM" followed by a dash serial number for each construction as it is made to order. For example EFM-1 is a six conductor cable having five It AWC insu lated conductors and one 14 AWG insulated conductor. Single conductor Exflex is designated as EFS with suffix numbers assigned to indicate various sixes.

LEWIS LONG-LIFE POWER CABLE is available in single and multi-conductor for 600 volt to S KV. service. Designed for ambient temperatures up to 150SC with conductor lemperoture of 200'C. Superior flame and moisture resistant insulation withstands environmental conditions of corrosive atmospheres, high temperatures, low temperatures, exposure to weather, ozone and ultra-violet rays, for extended periods of time, providing that extra margin of safety for critical circuits that MUST operate under adverse conditions.
The dielectric consists of multiple layers of silicone rubber glass tape, fused together to form an homogeneous wall of silicone rubber and glass, covered by an asbestos outer braid suitably im pregnated with a special heat-stable and moisture resistant compound.
Multi-conductor cables are constructed with the individual conductors having the fused silicone rubber glass insulation described above, suitably color-coded and cabled with asbestos or glass fillers as required. An asbestos braid, impregnated with the same heat-stable and moisture resistant com pound is applied over all. Multi-conductor cables are available in the same voltage ratings as single conductor cable, 600 V, 1 KV., 2 KV., 3 KV. and 5 KV.

APPLIANCE LEAD-WIRE AND "AF" FIXTURE WIRE... asbestos fiuulatod
We offer the electrical appliance manufacturer an excellent choice of detigm in raeittance element* for the operation of electrically heated device* wch a* low wattage eoWering beat, vaporiser*, bag cooler*, toys, heating pad*, brooder heater*, curling iron*, pant* pressers and many ether item* requiring a flexible, completely {mulcted heating unit.
Such flexible re*i*tanca element* ate built up from a flexible core of asbestos, ftbergla* or tom* other insulating material
at the required diameter. The resistance wire, such as coppermickel alloy or nidtehchrome allay, !* precisely wound on the
cere to give the required wattage per foot, then the unit is covered over all with d suitable insulating and heat resisting
material which may vary from fluffy dry asbestos or felted asbestos to silicon* impregnated flborgla* braid. The recommended
maximum wattage density far any unit is 75 watts per fool.

" VS. ,, :
Heating cable is assentlaity a conductor of copper-nickel or nicfcol-chromo alley resistance wire Insulated with heat resist*
ing insulation such a* felted asbestos with an outer braid of woven asbestos. Various combinations of Insulating material*
are used ta build laminated Insulations to obtain heating coble for particular application!.
:
.
For example, If It is expected that the cable might be subjected la casual moisture, the superior moisture and heat re sistance of teflon* used in the construction of the insulation hi combination with the hoof 'Insukrting value of asbestos and flberglas, will produce o heating cable that has superior moisture, temperature and abrasion resistance characteristics.
In addition to heating units end cable, we manufacture resistance "lino cords" such as required for tome portable radios, etc. Write its for data giving u* the circuit requirement*.
W* invite inquiries on the construction of heating element* or heating cable for your application and in ardor to properly design the item, we should have the following data; (s) Resistance per foot, (b) length of element that con be accommodated per unit or length of cable. (<) Wattage required, (d) Voltage, (el Temperature desired, (f) Space available per unit, (g) Sketch of device or description. <h> Tests required on completed hem. (i) Any special feature that must bo considered.
We illustrate a few typical examples of out heating units, heating cable and fixture wire.
