The Honorable Scott Pruitt Administrator U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20460
Dear Administrator Pruitt,
I am writing to request a meeting with you and POET CEO and founder Jeff Broin to discuss Midwestern rural economic development issues including the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and proposals that have been submitted to the EPA and the Administration to modify that program.
Jeff Broin is the Chairman and CEO of POET, the largest producer of biofuels worldwide. Mr. Broin grew the company from one small plant to the current comprehensive network of facilities, and simultaneously founded and built joint management, marketing, research and design companies that continually work with the POET network of plants. Mr. Broin has been heavily involved in biofuels advocacy and promotion on both the federal and state levels for more than 25 years.
POET operates 28 biorefineries across Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, and South Dakota that annually produce 1.75 billion gallons of ethanol and utilize about 4% of the U.S. corn crop. POET has also been a pioneer in cellulosic biofuel technology. The company recently built and currently operates Project Liberty, one of the first commercially viable cellulosic ethanol plants in the United States.
Mr. Broin will be flying from South Dakota to Washington, DC and would be available to meet with you on March 29th or in the afternoon of March 30th.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
