Free trade with our continental neighbors boosts U.S. energy security ensuring continued supplies of stable energy from right next door to supplement our own record natural gas and oil production. And it boosts our economy. Canada and Mexico are among our top energy customers, purchasing more than 710 million barrels of crude oil and refined products in 2017. That's economic activity that generates jobs and growth not just in the energy sector but in construction and businesses throughout the supply chain. USMCA retains key provisions that support energy trade including: continued market access for U.S. natural gas and oil products and U.S. energy investments in Canada and Mexico; continued zero tariffs on natural gas and oil products; and Investment Protections and Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) for U.S. natural gas and oil companies investing in Mexico. Retaining a trade agreement for North America will help ensure the U.S. energy revolution continues into the future, and Congress should approve USMCA without delay. Mike Sommers President & CEO API Both Parties Agree: E15 Hurts Consumers It may seem like there isn't much "across-theaisle" agreement in Washington these days, but a group of 20 Democratic and Republican senators recently wrote to President Trump to oppose the administration's plan to facilitate year-round sales of E15 gasoline.
