Message for EPA
Ms. Black, Mr. Morris, M. Corado and Mr. Parsons, Recently a good friend's son (age 31) passed away while using a METHYLENE CHLORIDE based paint stripper. My husband and I are very troubled by reports the EPA has indefinitely postponed its ban on METHYLENE CHLORIDE (EPAHQ-OPPT-2016-0231-001). Protecting the American consumers and workers from dangerous chemicals is at the core of your agency's mission. The longer these rules are delayed, the more workers and consumers will be needlessly exposed to toxic chemicals with serious, well documented health risks. METHYLENE CHLORIDE has been phased out by the US Military and banned by the European Union. The product fills shelves in home improvement paint departments with inadequate warning labels sold by people who are unaware of the risks. Action on METHYLENE CHLORIDE, a toxic chemical is long overdue. We urge the EPA to reconsider its decision to delay its rule making process and finalize the proposed ban on METHYLENE CHLORIDE.
Sincerely, Carol and Mike Morgan Mt. Pleasant, SC
