Alana,
I hope you are doing well and staying healthy.
I'd like to request a phone call between Administrator Wheeler and our President, Chet Thompson, and a handful of executives from our industry, such as our Chairman, Joe Gorder, the CEO of Valero Energy.
The purpose of the call would be to talk about the very concerning situation facing the refining industry, which has already seen several closures of major plants in the past year. You may have seen there have been at least four refinery closures announced in just the last few months (Holly Frontier, Marathon, and Phillips 66) in addition to the permanent shuttering of PES outside Philadelphia. We are hopeful that some of these facilities can be repurposed going forward, but in the meantime we're looking at major declines in fuel demand, lower utilization, and poor margins. The possibility of the increased regulatory burden in this market is troubling, to say the least.
We have appreciated the Administration's efforts to safeguard both the environment and economic growth. If the Administrator is willing, could you kindly suggest some times that work for him to discuss with industry leaders how to keep our energy economy viable and strong?
