Attached you will find a copy of a journal article of an industry wide study on vinyl chloride. The study reports several significant mortality excesses including angiosarcoma, cancer of the liver and biliary tract, brain cancer, and emphysema. This study including over 10,000 males at 37 plants was sponsored by CMA. He have recently discovered that approximately 400 Monsanto workers from the Indian Orchid plant were included in this study. The CMA Vinyl Chloride PSnel is upset with the study team because the paper for publication was nev r reviewed with the panel prior to publication.
He participated in a conference call with the CMA panel members. He also asked Bill Gaffey to participate. The committee decided to meet with the study team to discusB what can be done further to determine if the excesses observed are related to vinyl chloride exposure. John Acquavella will work with the CMA Panel. John will also attempt to obtain the Monsanto data used in the study to determine if our employees are at any increased risk, and work with the plant to determine how communication should be handled.
