Hi David, How come they want to talk to BOEM instead of FWS or NMFS?

The Port commissioners have met with the Secretary in the past, as I think you may recall. One area of growing interest to the Port is the development of aquaculture in federal waters off the port. Port staff would like to talk with someone at BOEM to discuss their ideas
and seek input on copying or adapting the BOEM model to advance aquaculture development in the most effective way possible. They are early in their thinking, so are hoping a BOEM subject matter expert could help them think some things through. Is there anyone you would recommend for this? Thanks for your thoughts and guidance. Hope you are doing well! David

Oh. I get it. Leasing the ocean space for aquaculture. BLM grazing permits might be another model. I am happy to talk to them for starters.

I understand the Port staff has talked with NWS and NMFS, but I honestly don't know who they talked with or the level of detail. A former NOAA staffer who now works at the Port wants to explore the BOEM model for leasing federal underwater land for aquaculture. Port staff is looking at models and would like "informal/casual input" ... ideally this Port staff could talk to the appropriate BOEM person (or you?) late this week. Sorry I can't be more definitive . I haven't been briefed-in and this is all I have right now. Ideas?
