All Gaskets Are Not Created Equal
Prove it to yourself - see if your current stock gaskets pass the standard Pfaudler gasket quality check:
Is the envelope made from 100% virgin PTFE or TFM, a modified PTFE material (for Bull Nose gaskets)?
Is the envelope pinhole-free and electrically tested at 10,000 volts several times during manufacture?
Is the metal insert made of non-corrosive stainless steel? Are the convolutions in the metal inserts of your gaskets of the correct depth and number? (Remember - variations significantly affect sealability).
Is the compressible insert made from high-density Kevlar or flexible graphite?
Has it been successfully tested to ASTM F363 (Test Method for Corrosion Testing of Gaskets) for 1000 hours?
Have your gaskets been tested for sealability using ASTM F112 (Standard Test Method for Sealability of Envelope Gaskets) and found to meet your specific sealing requirements?
Do your gaskets conform to ASTM F336 (Practice for Design and Construction of Non-Metallic Envelope Gaskets for Corrosive Service)?

Pfaudler's 2000Lr.
Pfaudler's 2000Lr is a proprietary, high density, Kevlar based material with a liquid resistant feature to improve service life, particularly in damp conditions where the insert material of a gasket might absorb moisture or where a vessel may be washed down. It contains a proprietary fiber / filler / binder system, including aramid fiber and inorganic fillers. 2000Lr has the ability to withstand high flange loads, and maximum operating temperatures, without sacrificing the product's performance characteristics. Pfaudler's 2000Lr is offered in a variety of enveloped gasket designs.

Temperature: -320F to 350F prolonged service. Intermittent service is possible to 450F.
Flexible Graphite.
Physical and chemical characteristics of flexible graphite such as high compressibility, minimal creep relaxation, good temperature resistance over extended periods of time, and excellent sealability and corrosion resistance, have made flexible graphite the material of choice for a variety of special services. It may have some limitations if exposed to a highly oxidizing atmosphere. However, flexible graphite has outstanding thermal shock properties and exhibits no embrittlement characteristics. Pfaudler offers this material in a variety of enveloped gasket designs. It is available in composite form with metal, glass fiber cloth, or polyester reinforcement.

Bull Nose (BN)
Description:
The Pfaudler BN gasket is the premium generalpurpose gasket provided with new Pfaudler RS and RT series of Glasteel reactors. Also, when used with an optional graphite insert, this gasket can replace the Extreme Service and Permeant Service gasket.
Features:
The BN gasket envelope is constructed from TFM, a modified PTFE material.
The standard compressible insert is made of Pfaudler's 2000Lr.
A flexible graphite insert can be provided as an option. This enables the gasket to be used in services where chemicals such as bromine, chlorine and iodine are present. The graphite insert would also allow the gasket to be used at elevated temperatures up to 500F over prolonged periods of time with enhanced sealability.
Benefits:
The TFM material has a denser molecular structure with fewer voids resulting in lower permeability rate.
TFM material testing revealed lower deformation under load (cold flow) and increased sealability in comparison to PTFE material.
The TFM material has better resilience, particularly at elevated temperature.

Pharmaceutical Service (RX/DE-BN)
Normal Service (NS)
Description:
The Pfaudler RX/DE-BN gasket is designed specifically for use on Pfaudler's Rx series of glass-lined stainless steel pharmaceutical reactors and other glass steel equipment requiring ultra-high purity. It minimizes the potential for product build-up and cross contamination.
Features:
The inner envelope has a machined TFM bull-nose inner surface to improve minimize an edge where product can accumulate and facilitates clean-out.
The outer envelope is a PTFE NS-style envelope that protects the outside of the gasket from corrosion and contamination
The compressible insert in the RX/DE-BN gasket is made of Pfaudler's 2000LR and is completely ,,encapsulated" so fibers are not exposed.
Benefits:
The RX/DE-BN gasket is the cleanest envelope gasket available for glass-lined steel equipment. There are no exposed surfaces on either the inside or outside of the gasket to minimize product build-up and minimize the risk of product contamination.

The RX/DE-BN gasket is available in sizes from 2" to 48". Sizes larger than 48" are available upon request.

Description:
The Pfaudler NS gasket is a general-purpose gasket provided with new Pfaudler RA-series Glasteel reactors. The NS gasket is used where PTFE is compatible with the product and process operating conditions.
Features:
The NS gasket features Pfaudler's 2000Lr compressible inserts. It has a slit or tape PTFE envelope and the corrugated metal insert is made of 304 stainless steel.
Benefits:
The NS gasket is an affordable alternative to the BN gasket.
The NS gasket is available in large custom sizes.
Available Sizes:
The NS gasket is available in sizes from 1" to 66" and with custom dimensions as large as 96".

Electro-Static (AS)
Self-centering (SC)
Description:
The Pfaudler AS gasket is used in piping systems or on vessels to help reduce the build-up of static electricity caused by friction between immiscible and free falling liquids.
Features:
The AS gasket has conductive, flexible graphite, compressible inserts, and a conductive PTFE channel envelope.
A metal grounding tab on the metal insert provides a dissipation path for electrostatic charge.
Benefits:
Using an AS gasket in conjunction with the measures listed in Technical Data Sheet TDS-98-100 helps reduce the ignition hazard of flammable solvents. Pinhole damage to the vessel glass lining due to electrostatic discharge and product build-up is also reduced.
Sealability at elevated temperatures and corrosion resistance of the compressible inserts are also enhanced.

The AS gasket is available in sizes from 1-1/2" to 48".
Service Conditions:
Temperature range: -400 to 650F. (Prolonged service above 450F possible; for temperatures above 550F please consult Pfaudler or GPS.).

Description:
The Pfaudler SC gasket is designed for ease of installation in piping systems, or on vessels where centering of the gasket is critical. It is a general-purpose gasket and is essentially a self-centering version of the standard NS design.
Features:
The SC gasket includes an oversized compressible insert made of Pfaudler's 2000Lr.
The outside diameter closely matches the inside diameter of the flange bolt circle.
Benefits:
This design ensures the SC gasket is positioned to enhance sealability and reduce leaks at start-up.
Correctly centered, the SC gasket also reduces any potential hazard from corrosive chemicals leaking from overhead piping.

Description:
The Pfaudler PS/ES-BN gasket is designed for services where chemical such as bromine, chlorine and iodine are present. The combination of the bull-nose TFM envelope and flexible graphite insert are ideal for severe applications involving operation at elevated temperatures over long periods of time.
Features:
The PS/ES-BN gasket has a machined TFM, bull nose envelope providing a thicker envelope on the process side of the gasket to reduce the effects of chemical permeation.
Unique bull-nose geometry minimizes product build-up.
The compressible insert is made of flexible graphite.
Benefits:
The PS / ES BN gasket provides a longer service life and has added protection against the detrimental effects of chemical permiation.
The PS / ES BN gasket is suitable for higher process temperatures over a longer time.
The PS / ES BN gasket minimizes product build-up.
The flexible graphite insert provides increased corrosion resistance.

Pfaudler SG gasket is used to fill small gaps in piping systems which result from the build-up of tolerances over the length of the pipe run.
Features:
The SG gasket has a machined PTFE channel envelope, and has inserts made of Pfaudler 2000LR. The thickness of the compressible inserts is double that of a standard envelope gasket.
Benefits:
The SG gasket can compensate for inaccurate spool lengths in piping systems.
Easy installation. Has an enhanced service life due to reduced
moisture absorption.
