in a trade, occupation or profession.
( ]\ ) Rock drilling machinery - Any machinery mounted or a-vehicle which
is usedto excavate rock by means of drilling, cutting, chipping, channeling, broaching
or crushing.
(12) Siiori-'crm limn - The maximum atmospheric concentration of a
contaminant to which a workman may be exposed for a specified short-time period. The
concentration represents an upper limit of exposure for the specified time and assumes
that there are sufficient recovery periods between episodes for recuperation. The daily
average exposure to the contaminant, including these episodes, shall be such that the
threshold limit value set forth in 201.72 of this Title (relating to threshold limit values)
shall not be exceeded. Short-term limit values shall be those set forth in 201.73 of
this Title (relating to short-term limit values).

values are set forth in 201.72 of this Title (relating to threshold limit values). (14) Vapor - Any liquid, except water, which when held in suspension in
air will revert to its orgmal liquid state after release from heat, chemical action or pressure conditions.
201.2. Purpose.
The purpose of the provisions of this Subchapter shall be to prescribe minimum requirements and standards for the maintenance of occupational health and safer;, in places of employment in this Commonwealth,
201.3. Scope.
The provisions of this Subchapter shall apply to all places of employment in this .Commonwealth.
DUTIES OF EMPLOYER AND EMPLOYEE
201.11. Control measure and protective equipment.
(a) Each employer shall install and provide those control measures and protective equipment which are required to provide for the health, comfort, safety and well-being oi the employee. Atmospheric contaminants shall be controlled at the point of origin. Even' employer shall submit at the request of the Department detailed plans and compliance schedules for correcting violations. Persona! protective equipment or administrative control shall be acceptable only for the time period specified by the Department and until engineering control is installed. Yv'here administrative or personal control measures must be used, medical tests may be required ir, accoruerme with the provisions of 201.14 of this Title (relating to physical examination for employees).
(b) When the limits of exposure to asbestos dust exceed those prescribed ir. Table IS of 201.72 of this Title (relating to threshold limit values) and until engineering control is installed or proved not to be feasible, the following respiratory protection program shall be established-
(1) For an atmosphere containing asbestos not more than 25 fibe's per milliliter greater than 5 microns in length over an S-hour average or mere than 50 fibers per milliLier greater tiian 5 microns in length over any period of 15 minutes, a reusable or single-use filter type respirator, operating with negative pressure during the inhalation phase of breathing, approved by the LLS. Bureau of Mines under -the provision of 30 CFR Part 14 (Bureau of Mines Schedule 21B). or a valveless re^pi.-ato: providing equivalent protection shall be used.
(2) For an atmosphere containing asbestos not more than 250 fibers per milliliter greater than 5 microns m length over an S-hour average, or more than 5GQ fibers per milliliter greater than 5 microns in length over any period of 15 minutes, a powered filter positive pressure respirator approved by the U.S. Bureau of Mines under the provisions of 30 CFR Pen 1- (Bureau of Mines Schedule 21B) shall be used.
(3) For an atmosphere containing asbestos more than 250 fibers per milliliter greater than 5 microns m length over an S-hour average, a type C positive pressure supplied-air respirator approved by the U.S. Bureau of Mines under the provisions of 30 CFR Part 12 (Bureau o f Mines Schedule 19B) shall be used.
fc) Each employee shall properly utilize protective measures and equipment supplied by the employer to provide for the employee's health, comfort, safety and well-being.
201.12. Instruction of employes.
Each employer shall inform and periodically instruct Eds employes regarding known hazards and proper methods for utilizing industrial hygiene control measures which are provided.
201.13. Cleaning of protective equipment.

It shall be ascertained by a trained person that no harmful contam inant
arc present and mechanically induced dilution \entilation is used before entry and during
occupancy to insure that an adequate quantity ol -oxygen is supplied to the confuted
space.
201.32. Maintenance of desices and equipment.
All atmospheric testing devices and respirators' protective equipment shall be maintained at all times to ensure that they are in satisfactory wonting condition.
201.33. Posting of entry procedures.
Written confined spaces entry procedures shall be posted adjacent to tanks, vessels or areas which mav be entered.
201.34. Records to be maintained.
Records o f atmospheric sampling in confined spaces along with procedures med shall be kept and made available to the Department on request.
