Katie,
"Protecting the safety of our nation's drinking water is one of EPA's top priorities." - EPA spokesperson
On background: + EPA has drinking water standards for more than 90 contaminants, including microorganisms, disinfectants, disinfection byproducts, inorganic and organic chemicals, and radionuclides. + Over 91 percent of the community water systems meets all health-based standards all of the time. + We decline to comment on the paper.

Hi Enesta, Thanks - attached is the paper. It's hard to come up with questions not knowing who I'll be speaking to, but in general I'd like to know the person's impressions of the study (e.g., problems, big take-aways). Beyond that, if the person is allowed to speak to this, I would be interested to know if the EPA will use the results from this study in its drinking water program. Are the findings useful - or do they show things that the EPA already knew? Can the findings be applied to keep people safe? What is the EPA already doing to keep drinking water safe?
My deadline is Monday morning, so I'd need answers by close of business today.
Thanks again,
Katie

I'm a writer at Science Magazine and we're doing an online story for Monday about an upcoming paper entitled "National trends in drinking water violations." Do you have any scientists or drinking water policy experts who would be available to comment on the work? If so, I can send them the paper.
Katie
