Dear Leila,
The American Petroleum Institute celebrated its 100th anniversary this week - marking a century of energy i nnovation, leadership and progress.
The U.S. energy industry has always been at the forefront of powering positive change, and nowhere is that more evident than the energy revolution that has made the United States the world's leading producer, refiner and exporter of natural gas, and No. 1 reducer of emissions. America's natural gas and oil industry is playing a central role in solving the challenges of the 21st century. Projections show expanding energy demand, as developing nations grow their economies - creating opportunity, and improving health and living standards for millions living in poverty around the globe. That doesn't happen without natural gas and oil, and this industry is committed to meeting that global demand in a safe and environmentally sustainable way.
API is proud to represent America's natural gas and oil industry, and to ensure the United States remains the world's gold standard for safe and responsible operations. Through API's more than 700 globally recognized standards, and our advocacy here in Washington and in communities across the country, we're committed to making the nation stronger by keeping the industry strong. That's why we were founded, and it's our mission every day.

U.S. Consumers Bearing the Brunt of Tariffs and Quotas
The administration is considering doubling down on its trade war despite repeated warnings and thorough evidence that tariffs and quotas are negatively impacting American consumers, even while failing to lower the U.S. trade deficit. The latest numbers are a stark reminder of this ongoing issue, and don't even
begin to measure the damage to our economy from quotas on imported steel.
