Summer Western Roundtable & Field Tours of National Forests in California and Nevada In August, Western Caucus members and leaders took part in our Summer Western Policy Roundtable in the Lake Tahoe region of California and Nevada.

Throughout our time in the Lake Tahoe region, US Forest Service conducted field tours of several forests -- discussions included wild fire prevention, categorical exclusions for forest management, and private versus public land management.

Key leaders discussed the importance of healthy forests, active management, fire suppression, water, recreation, energy, access to federal lands, agriculture, and rural economies.
Oher key topics included the Bureau of Land Management's recent decision to move headquarters back out West, updating and modernizing the regulations related to the Endangered Species Act, and Water
Shed Conservation efforts in the immediate area.
We were joined by Karen Budd-Falen, Deputy Solicitor at U.S. Department of the Interior, and Karen Hanley of the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council. Throughout the trip, key guests also included the U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary Jim Hubbard, and Chairman Mary
Neumayr of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Caucus members included: Chairman Steve Daines, Chairman Rep. Paul Gosar, Rep. Tom McClintock, Rep. Doug LaMalfa, Rep. Bruce Westerman, Rep. Dan Newhouse, and Rep. James

On the Pioneer Trail, in Utah
As we welcome the first day of the Autumn season, the Foundation will be hosting a Member Fall Weekend in Utah, from October 24th through the 27th. The Congressional Utah
Delegation will be in attendance, as we have several field tours of National and State parks near Moab lined up for the weekend. We'll discuss (and visit) issues related to the
management of federal public lands in Utah. Look for an invitation in your email in-box.
Rural Broadband Discussion in Washington, DC This month, the Western Caucus Foundation, in conjunction with Ride Television Network, hosted a policy briefing on rural broadband issues. Our keynote speaker, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr, discussed how the FCC is working to effectively and efficiently deploy broadband to more of rural America. broadband for rural areas - like access healthcare & telemedicine, increasing agriculture efficiencies, and opportunities for remote employment.
