ASI-PR 0001098 2/ Materials are included on the list when a producer advises the Committee that its product can be used to manufacture equipment and/or parts which will meet the 3-A Sanitary Standards, and that the material is in compliance with applicable requirements of the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act, primarily those imposed by the Food Additives Amendment of 1958. A material may be in such compliance as a result of (1) an applicable FDA regulation in Subpart F of the Food Additive Regulation, (2) its status as a "prior sanctioned" or "generally recognized as safe" (GRAS)* material, or (3) the fact that its producer has properly concluded that it may not reasonably be expected to become a component of food. While it may certainly be presumed that a raw materials supplier will have applied the 3-A Sanitary Standards test procedures on suitable product samples fabricated for this purpose, each manufacturer of plastics parts made from a listed raw material must employ good manufacturing practices (Including control testing) so that he can assure the dairy Industry that his particular equipment or parts will meet the 3-A Standards. 2/ Generic classes of multiple-use plastics are set forth In Section I.
