Fire and Explosion Hazards: Fumes, smoke, carbon monoxide, aldehydes and other decomposition products in the case of incomplete combustion.
Fire-Fighting Equipment: Minimize breathing gases, vapors, fumes or decomposition products. Use supplied-air breathing equipment for confined spaces or as otherwise needed.
4. REACTIVITY DATA:
Stability: (conditions to avoid) - avoid contamination with water or moist air. Reacts vigorously with water. Should be stored under an inert atmosphere.
Incompatibility: (specific materials to avoid) - water, alcohols, other protic solvents, strong oxidants such as chlorine.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: - small amounts of hydrogen chloride are released on exposure to air or water.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will Not Occur
5. ENVIRONMENTAL AND DISPOSAL INFORMATION:
ACTION TO TAKE FOR SPILLS/LEAKS: Shut off and eliminate all ignition sources. Keep people away. Add suitable adsorbent materials and keep product out of sewers by diking or impounding. Recover free product. Minimize breathing vapors and minimize skin contact.
DISPOSAL METHOD: Recovered product should be treated in the catalyst deactivation vessel. The hydrocarbon diluent is sent to process recovery and the water from the deactivation should be treated in accordance with any applicable regulations.

6. HEALTH HAZARD DATA:
EYE: May cause severe eye irritation with corneal injury which may result In permanent impairment of vision.
SKIN CONTACT: prolonged or repeated exposure may cause skin bums. May cause drying or flaking of skin. Short single exposures may cause skin irritation, pigmentation and a burning sensation which persists after material is removed.
SKIN ABSORPTION: A single prolonged exposure is not likely to result in the material being absorbed through the skin in harmful amounts. The dermal LD50 has not been determined.
INGESTION: If aspirated, may cause lung damage or even chemical pneumonia, a condition caused by petroleum and petroleum-like solvents. Small amounts swallowed incidental to normal handling operations are not likely to cause Injury; swallowing amounts larger than that may cause serious injury, even death. The single dose LD50 has not been determined. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and central nervous system, kidney, and liver effects.
INHALATION: In confined or poorly ventilated areas, vapors can readily accumulate and can cause unconsciousness and death. Excessive exposure may cause irritation to upper respiratory tract and may increase sensitivity to epinephrine and increase myocardial irritability. Signs and symptoms of excessive exposure may be anesthetic or narcotic effects. Excessive exposure may also cause central nervous system effects, convulsions and nausea as well as liver and kidney effects.
SYSTEMIC AND OTHER EFFECTS: Excessive exposure may cause liver effects. Heptane is part of a mixture which caused polyneuropathy. However, there is no clear evidence that heptane causes peripheral nervous systems effects.
CANCER, TERATOLOGY AND REPRODUCTIVE EFFECTS: No relevent information found.

7. FIRST AID:
- EYES: Irrigate immediately and continuously for at least 15 minutes. Consult medical personnel.
SKIN: Wash off in flowing water or shower
INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician and/or transport to emergency facility immediately.
INHALATION: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If breathing is difficult, oxygen should be administered by qualified personnel. Call a physician or transport to a medical facility.
NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: The decision of whether to induce vomiting or not should be made by an attending physician. If lavage is performed, suggest endotracheal and/or esophageal control. Danger of lung aspirations must be weighed against toxicity when considering emptying the stomach. Exposure may increase "myocardial irritability". Do not administer sympathomimetric drugs unless absolutely necessary. No specific antidote. Supportive care. Treatment based on judgment of the physician in response to reactions of the patient.
8. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS:
These precautions are suggested for conditions with a high potential for exposure. If handling procedures are such that there is only a low potential for exposure, less protection may be needed. Emergency conditions may require additional precautions.
Exposure Guide!ine(s): n-Heptane: ACGIH TLV and OSHA PEL are 400 ppm TWA, 500 ppm STEL.
Ventilation: Provide general and/or local exhaust ventilation to control airborne levels below the exposure guidelines.

Respiratory Protection: Atmospheric level should be maintained below the exposure guideline. When respirator protection is required' for certain operations, use an approved air-purifying respirator. For emergency and other conditions where the exposure guideline may be greatly exceeded, use an approved positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus or positive-pressure airline with auxiliary self-contained air supply. In confined or poorly ventilated areas, use an approved positive-pressure supplied-air respirator.
Protective Clothing: Use protective clothing impervious to this material.
Selection of specific items such as gloves, boots, apron, or full-body suit will depend on operation.
Eye Protection: Use chemical goggles.
