Dear Aurelia,
I am writing today to extend my personal invitation for you to join the Idaho Cattle Association and me for the 15th annual Governor's Trail Ride. In true Idaho fashion, this is a unique opportunity to explore natural resource issues firsthand via an educational horseback ride, discussions, dinner and campout. This year's ride is scheduled for July 18 20 in the shadow of the Continental Divide, where the water still runs west from the Centennial Mountains.
For over a decade now I have been hosting federal land management agencies, state and federal wildlife agencies, local ranchers and other resource stakeholders on annual rides to communicate and share ideas in an informal setting. This discussion between individuals involved in land and resource management - at the ground level - is paramount to gaining valuable perspective on how to better meet the needs of rural families, protect natural resources, and preserve the landscape in Idaho.
While on horseback and hilltops overlooking Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service land, this rare perspective will showcase the importance of active resource management. The event will provide opportunities for on-site discussions about improvements to federal grazing management and permit administration, wildlife management and conservation in harmony with sustainable land use, and endangered species habitat.
The location of this year's ride, on historic ranchland nestled in the highlands of the Upper Snake River valley, provides an ideal opportunity for campfire conversations to explore working solutions for wildlife management and land management policies for the benefit of the natural resources we all value. It would be my pleasure if you would join us for this informative experience that has the potential to shape the future of land and natural resource management - not only in Idaho, but across the West.
I will be sending out details on logistics and scheduling in the near future. John Chatburn, my liaison for this event, is available to answer any additional questions you might have regarding the ride. You can reach John by phone at (208) 332-1660 or by email at John.Chatburn@oer.idaho.gov.
If you plan on joining us, please RSVP by June 15 to Krissy Lindsay in my office at (208) 334-2100 or by email at Krissy.Lindsay@gov.idaho.gov.
Again, I look forward to seeing you on the trail ride. If you can't make the ride, please feel welcome to join us for the issue discussion and dinner on July 19.
As Always - Idaho, "Esto Perpetua"
C.L. "Butch" Otter Governor of Idaho
