Thanks Carol. While we are making progress on our agenda, your perspectives are quite helpful. We have a call scheduled with a number of state associations on Wednesday and perhaps we can discuss further in the next few days.

Peter, on behalf of the State of Michigan's response team I want to thank you for all your efforts. I know you may already have your agenda together but I wanted to offer to help in any way you may need. From the prospective of states across the nation I would assume we want to understand if we have common issues so shared experiences will certainly be gained through this conference as we interface. States also want to learn from each other so a "best practices" session, in May or in the future, would be helpful to all of us.
I am cognizant that many people are advising you on this conference so forgive me if I have repeated something others have said.
Again, thanks.

Thanks Heidi. These are all excellent topics. Some of these we can answer in the affirmative now, but others are important topics of future discussion, including at the summit. Thanks for sending these forward!

Peter -
Hope this finds you well and that you finally have some spring weather.
Last week, Andy Gillespie and I provided a short PFAS presentation at the EPA Region 5/State Directors meeting in Chicago. Andy did a nice job covering EPA's ongoing technical work, while I discussed some of our outstanding concerns. As a result of those discussions, it was suggested I forward these items for consideration to be included on the May Summit agenda.
Suggested agenda items:
1. States' needs from EPA a. MCLs b. Unregulated contaminants - especially in drinking water. It is difficult for each state to try to make it's own way with these compounds. Can EPA somehow help coordinate/facilitate/lead efforts to foster consistency? c. Biosolids standard d. Possibility of pursuing a determinative method for isotope dilution for drinking water tests
2. EPA/DOD relationship a. Is there a formal relationship? If so, where does it reside; at what level? b. Does DOD consult with EPA in any way regarding PFAS contamination and remediation? c. Does EPA have a role and provide input at DOD sites? How does it work?
3. EPA/FAA relationship a. Has EPA explored the impact of FAA's mandatory training with and use of AFFF at FAA certified airports? b. Is there a formal relationship on the PFAS issue? If so, where does it reside; at what level? c. What about ongoing dialogue of about future use and alternatives? Has the FAA considered alternatives?
4. PFAS risk communication a. Need well developed, coordinated, consistent messaging that can be used by all b. How do we explain why we can't move faster on standards, etc? c. Public health impacts
