Re: Invitation to Give Keynote Address to Renewable Natural Gas Conference 2019 on December 3, 2019.
Dear Administrator Wheeler:
I am writing to invite you to deliver the keynote address to the Renewable Natural Gas Conference 2019 on December 3, 2019 at the Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California.
The Renewable Natural Gas Conference 2019 is hosted by the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition), the trade association representing America's renewable natural gas (RNG) industry. It is the industry's premiere event and draws senior executives from across the industry's value chain. Consistent with previous years, we expect 400 attendees to attend this year's conference.
The RNG industry captures untreated biogas (methane) that would be flared or wasted, or worse, allowed to vent directly into the atmosphere, from landfills, wastewater treatment facilities and anaerobic digesters at livestock and agricultural operations, and converts the methane into RNG that meets the natural gas pipeline quality or natural gas vehicle standards. RNG can subsequently be blended with or substitute for geologic natural gas. RNG is fungible and can be stored in existing infrastructure, dispatched and deployed as needed to fuel natural gas vehicles. Since 2014, the RNG industry has experienced tremendous growth as a result of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). The program has enabled us to convert society's waste streams into an abundant and affordable domestic renewable energy resource. RNG now constitutes more than 95% of the fuel used to meet the RFS program's cellulosic biofuel requirement.
The RNG Coalition appreciates your actions to promote the domestic production and use of RNG. The steps EPA has taken to grow the cellulosic biofuel portion of the RFS program have provided the policy framework that is vital our industry's sustained growth. The RNG Coalition and the industry leaders that make up our membership would be honored to have you deliver the keynote address at our annual conference, which runs from December 3 -- 5, 2019.
